The Maldives is one of no. 1 tropical destinations on earth. Have you been there? If not, you should pack your bags, and most importantly, read this blog.
Hotels and Flights
The best way to book a hotel or flight is on a website like booking.com, trip advisor or trivago. The prices depend on things like private pools and over-water villas/bungalows. I stayed at Dusit Thani Maldives which has Beach villas, Ocean villas and Water villas (The difference between water villas and ocean villas are that ocean villas are further into the sea). Prices increase if it has a private pool. Planning your trip early is an economic choice for both hotels and flights. But remember, there are over 200 islands to stay at, so don't rush, find what fits your budget and liking best.
Wildlife
There is a lot of sea/wildlife in the Maldives, most of which are harmless but there are still things to be aware of. Fun fact: Corals are also considered animals instead of plants. Talking about coral, fire coral is very common in the Maldives. Fire coral stings like jellyfish and is deadly when enters the bloodstream. Just be careful what you touch. Larger wildlife like sharks are also common but, they are usually just babies and won't harm you. Smaller things like crabs are everywhere on the beach so I don't recommend walking barefoot, especially at night. Also expect to see bats and iguanas around, and if you're lucky, maybe even some baby turtles.
Weather
The Maldives has two main seasons, Dry Season (December - April) and Wet Season (April - December). Dry season is for people who like hot weather, like 60 degree (celsius), and sunburns. Wet season is for people who are fine with 5 minute rains, and also midnight storms. I went during the wet season and the locals say lightning barely strikes, but I can't say anything about the dry season.
Arrival
There are two main ways to go to your island from Malé. Sea Plane and Speed Boat. I went with sea plane because it was quite wavy when I went. The sea plane barely shakes but the landing was terrifying! We were shaking with the waves. But I think speed boat would have been the same. While booking a hotel, consider the distance from Malé.
In my opinion, The Maldives is extraordinary. All the sunny days to the lightning strikes - It is a place full of nature. I will never forget this trip.
