In my experience, there are two types of vacations. One that is relaxing and tropical, and one that is the opposite, walking all day long discovering the city. London is definitely the second one.

Tourist Locations

In London, I was lucky to explore 20+ tourist locations in just four days! The classics like Big Ben, Buckingham Palace and Trafalgar square are great sight seeing places, but you could always go on an hop on hop off bus to see more. Although London does mostly look old (in a good way) you could always visit the Tower of London for some medieval history. Or maybe the Tower Bridge, which has a glass floor 65 meters above the ground. If you're a science fan, definitely visit Greenwich planetarium. If you're going to visit a museum, I would recommend British Museum, Natural History Museum and Science Museum. But of course, if you're looking for a more entertaining activity, the London Eye is a must see. For most off these attractions, if there is a line, there is most likely a fast track as well.

Public Transport
The easiest way to travel is obviously renting a car, but that's pretty expensive and traffic is horrible, the second best thing is Metro. Luckily, Metro can get you almost everywhere in the city! When looking for a place to stay, consider the walk to the nearest metro station. And don't forget the hop on hop off tours that can get you almost everywhere too. Plus it's very economic, the average price is 25 Pounds (per person) and your ticket lasts 2 days.

For Wizards
For all the Harry Potter fans out there, London is your place. If you want to stay on budget, visit platform 9 3/4 at Kings Cross (it's free) or a more expensive option like Warner Bros Studios in Watford (1 hour drive out of London. Might need to rent a car this time). Ticket prices depend if you want deluxe tour or normal entry. But trust me, it's so worth it. There's details on how the film was made and most importantly, Butterbeer (There's no alcohol in it).
